Dear Vizuri,

Fourteen years old is official! You're no longer daddy's little princessa warrior like I have you saved in my phone. In four years, you will be a woman.

That's crazy talk!

Recognizing the reality of the limited time we have remaining together is difficult. You completed almost two years of secondary school in Antigua. Soon, you will leave for college.

Last time I checked, you said you wanted to work as a marine biologist. Is that still your career goal? You possess the smarts, skills, and abilities to do many things.

Becoming a marine biologist requires a bachelor's degree at minimum. If you earn an advanced degree, you can work as a college professor or lead an aquatic research laboratory. Combining your interests in swimming and ocean life into a business is also an option.

Your mother and I will always do our best to support you.

I know it's been a rough season for you in the pool. Your knee has bothered you for a few months. You've forced yourself to push through many of your swim practices.

You're tired of the pool buoy exercises but gaining some serious shoulder strength. When your knee recovers, your upper body will propel you to get faster swim times. That's something to appreciate.

Think about what you're gaining for a moment before continuing to read this letter.

Thanks for coming to the gym with me this week. It was a great way to end our family's time in Antigua. I enjoyed having you by my side while lifting weights.

At 4:30 AM, most of the children your age were sleeping. You were putting in "that work," and you have been for a while now because you're a serious athlete.

Subbing for Coach Wayne last week was fun. Seeing you and your brother finish each long swim set brought me joy. Swimming is no joke; practicing daily requires desire, discipline, and commitment.

I am proud of you and excited to see the woman you will become. Promise me, it won't happen too soon.

Continue to prioritize your school work and sports activities.

The dedication it takes to stay up late and finish homework or push through a grueling swim set will pay off. I am impressed by your abilities to do both.

I know we have a lot going on right now with our move back to the United States, but your mother and I did not forget about you. We hope you enjoyed your birthday. Your mom cooked and baked in the kitchen for the entire day to prepare you a special meal and dessert.

I hope I'm not embarrassing you with this public letter. Your mom shows love through food. Writing is how I express love, and I love you.

Happy birthday and skibidi toilet, whatever that means:)!

Dad
