Clarity, Sacrifice, Achieve

What sacrifices are you willing to make? Consider a goal and the anticipated result. To achieve the outcome, you must let something go.

It's your choice which object, environment, activity, or person to leave behind, but it is not negotiable. Commit and proceed toward your objective with self-discipline and the assistance of others.

This week, I faced the reality of this post's introduction. My family and I will leave Antigua and Barbuda in less than two months. This island has been our home for six years, and it is time to move.

Where will we go? At the hour of this writing, our destination is unknown. I am considering employment prospects in multiple countries, but nothing has been confirmed. We will board a plane in December and likely land in the States.

It's mandatory to make sacrifices during tumultuous transitions.

In last Friday's post, I shared about learning how to use the hardware and software to collect swimming times for the Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation's 9th Invitational Swim Meet. Two of my children participated in the event. My youngest son qualified to join the National Swim Team and travel to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for an international championship.

Although the National Swim Team represents Antigua and Barbuda, it doesn't receive significant government funding. Parents, family members, friends, and charitable donations support team expenses. Most of the funds come from parents, family members, and friends.

In previous events, I have covered my children's fees to join the National Swim Team and compete against other countries. We traveled to St. Lucia for two consecutive years to attend the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States's (OECS) Championship Swim Meet. The team returned with the first-place trophy in 2022 and 2023.

This year, I initially rejected the team's nomination on my son's behalf. With upcoming moving expenses, I couldn't justify spending a minimum of $2k to cover two round-trip tickets, food, and the hotel room. Thankfully, a sponsor agreed to pay his expenses.

My wife and I will remain home, but he will travel to help increase the team's chances of winning another championship. We trust his coach and the parents of other swimmers to ensure his safety.

It hurts not to be able to travel with him, but it is necessary because our primary source of income ends in December. We have an unknown number of financial hurdles ahead. It's crucial to save resources and leap over what follows soon.

I must make sacrifices beforehand to offer my family the necessary support during this transition to a new location. Once we resettle, there will be other opportunities to travel together and support each other in athletic events.

Can you relate? To increase your chances of success, remember to clarify your goals and make sacrifices.

I have one more quick example concerning the upcoming election in the US.

Sacrifice is fundamental to the Harris/Walz campaign.

Biden stepped down so Harris could rise to her rightful position on the presidential platform. He silenced his ego and voiced his support for the Vice president to take over for him. I doubt he conceived of this political strategy alone, but he realized a Democrat needed to get elected in 2024.

Fingers crossed, eyes closed, this sacrifice produces results in November.

We must take uncomfortable actions to improve the likelihood of success. The process is often not easy, but it builds toughness to endure future challenges.

In the comments below this month's vlog episode, reveal something you will abandon to achieve your goals.
